How To Use An Air Stone With Your Hydroponic Growing System

Air stones need to be pre-soaked to get the best range and spread of bubbles. You can do this in a bowl of water before installation. Alternatively, you can install them un-soaked but expect the air stone to improve its spread and range of bubbles over the first 48 hours.

You can drive more than one air stone with an air pump, just make sure the pump is large enough for the job. You should be careful not to push too much air through the stones.

We recommend you place your air pumps outside of your growing environment so that air is not being re-circulated through the water, which can lead to disease such as root rot.

In systems where the roots sit directly in the nutrient solution, the temperature needs to be low to prevent infection from disease. We recommend keeping the temperature between 64-degrees Fahrenheit to 68-degrees Fahrenheit. To monitor and maintain these temperatures incorporate a chiller, heater, and a thermometer with your hydroponic setup.
