Luxx Lighting CMH Grow Light Bulb, 315 Watt, Flowering Bulb (3100K)

Ceramic metal halide (CMH) grow lights are a relatively new type of HID lighting, and outperform traditional MH and HPS grow lights. The composition of these lights result in a far more efficient operation, a fuller spectrum of light, and lower heat output. These lights are generally more expensive, but pay for themselves in energy cost savings. Many growers are upgrading their standard HID system with a new CMH system for these reasons.

Bulb Features

  • Energy efficient. High par value
  • Full spectrum 3100k or 4200k
  • Superior color quality
  • Reduced operating heat
  • Increased plant resin production
  • Rated life span 20,000 hours
  • These bulbs no longer carry a warranty because the manufacturer is no longer in business to honor any warranty claims

What does CMH stand for in grow lighting? (Definition & Benefits)

CMH stands for Ceramic Metal Halide, a type of metal-halide lamp that's also known as a Ceramic Discharge Metal-Halide (CDM) lamp. CMH lamps are often used as grow lights for indoor plants and have several advantages over traditional HID bulbs, including:

  • Color rendition -Ā CMH lamps produce a bluish light with a color rendering index (CRI) of up to 96, which is similar to daylight. Some manufacturers say that the ceramic tube in CMH lamps, usually made of sintered alumina, allows for higher arc tube temperatures, which results in better color stability.
  • Efficiency -Ā CMH lamps are 10ā€“20% more efficient than traditional quartz metal halide lamps and use 20% of the power of incandescent bulbs with the same output.
  • Light quality -Ā CMH lamps have a balanced spectrum and retain their color spectrum better than most other gas discharge lamps.
  • Heat output -Ā CMH lamps produce low heat output, which can be beneficial in larger, taller spaces where increased ceiling height allows for better heat management and air flow.
  • Light intensity -Ā CMH grow lights can produce more intense light than LED grow lights, which can be important for canopy penetration.
